Day 324 of 2025
“Fractured Hours: Glass and Wind”
If someone says simply or just, simply means they don't know how hard it was. Just means they don't know how expensive it is.
The easier it is for you to use, the harder it was for us to make.
Polyptych
From the Greek πολύπτυχον: many folds.
1. A hinged altarpiece of several panels, designed
so that closing day means folding one scene
against another — the annunciation pressed
flat to the crucifixion, the garden supper
kissing the empty tomb.
2. Any arrangement in which discrete moments
are displayed side by side yet share a single
frame. See also: Wednesday.
3. (Informal, Christchurch usage) The feeling
of living inside several transparent hours
at once — conference table still visible
through the physiotherapist's hands,
podcast voices bleeding into the clink
of dinner plates — none fully opaque,
none fully past.
4. (Obsolete) A device for forgetting
that a day is not one thing.
Now considered impossible.
