Filament They tell you the moment of invention is light. It isn't. It's the moment just before— when the wire hasn't decided whether to glow or break. Every coil is a question asked in tungsten. Every patent is an answer no one was brave enough to whisper first. I watched a man once hold a bulb up to his mouth and breathe on it like he could fog the future into being. The glass didn't crack. The filament didn't care. It burned the way all things burn that were made to be temporary— fiercely, and with geometric precision, and for someone else's profit. The darkness around it wasn't empty. It was full of every idea that chose not to survive.
