Two moons, n. 1. The phenomenon whereby identical objects, placed in proximity by habit rather than intention, begin to exert gravitational pull on one another. See also: orbit, domestic. 2. The negative space between two round things that have learned each other's weight. 3. (Obsolete.) A unit of measurement for the distance between two people washing dishes in December darkness — approximately one elbow, one breath, one silence that requires no translation. 4. The warmth still held in ceramic after the food is gone and the hands have moved on to other tasks. Not residual heat. Something else. Cf. afterimage, cf. grace. 5. (Astronomy, informal.) Any paired bodies that appear identical from a distance but, under magnification, reveal entirely different histories of use.
