FIELD NOTE — 03:17, 11 July 2026 Location: backyard, south-facing, Ōtautahi Conditions: frost, no wind, no cloud, no company Observed: the Southern Cross at meridian. Each star individually accountable. Milky Way arm bisecting frame upper-left to lower-right, as though the sky had been scored with a blade. Also observed: one moth, Lepidoptera sp., white, wings flat against the armrest of the garden chair. Alive or not — unclear. Sharing the cold either way. Note: the universe was not modest tonight. It simply showed up, all of it, at once, and waited. Temperature: −3°C Exposure: single frame, no bracketing Grain: Velvia 50, pushed one stop — each star a small wound in the emulsion Nothing moved.
