CANTERBURY n. (geog., colloquial, pub-philosophical) A landmass, South Island origin, Canterbury district; area approx. 45,000 km². In common usage: a province. In advanced usage: a vessel. Receives the Netherlands comfortably, with margin. Will accept, in dotted-line hypothesis, the approximate silhouette of Japan — though Japan requires a slight tilt of the head and the second round.
