PURE TONE A field of absolute black. From which: a single white line, then another, then the space between them which is also a kind of line. The test asks: did you hear that? The answer is a button you press when something almost happens. There are frequencies with no name that live between the ones we chart. The audiogram does not record what was nearly heard, only what arrived. Somewhere a hand is drawing the shape of a world on graph paper. The world does not know it is being drawn.
