FIELD NOTE: Christchurch, 1 February Two chairs facing. The light at this latitude arrives diagonal, February-angled, and holds its position longer than expected. The napkin fold: cathedral. The fork: aligned to magnetic south. Steam from the covered dish performs a dispersal pattern consistent with no wind, no draught, no disturbance of any kind. I note the second place setting has not been touched. I note the sky through the window is the blue of something that has forgotten how to end. The interval between laying the table and sitting down contains the entire Southern Hemisphere. Duration of observation: ongoing.
