Amber Ritual in the Gray Hours

We flew over ourselves once, looked down and saw the shapes our bodies made pressed into the land— continents of having-been-here, islands of not-yet. The pilot said nothing. The clouds said nothing. We said nothing and called it Saturday. Somewhere below, a light was on in a kitchen we would not remember leaving, and a table was set for exactly the right number.
