From Blueprint to Spotlight

diptych, n. /ˈdɪptɪk/ 1. A hinged pair of panels, originally wax tablets, used by Romans to record debts on one side and credits on the other. 2. Any day that folds in half along an invisible crease— morning's shirtsleeves becoming evening's cufflinks, the same hands that drew arrows on glass now holding champagne they didn't pour. 3. The hinge itself. The taxi ride. The hallway mirror where you check your teeth and briefly meet someone transitional, someone neither working nor celebrating, just moving between rooms. 4. (Obsolete.) A prayer book small enough to close with one hand.
