Blueprints of Empty Rooms

You either choose what gives, or it will choose for you.
OVERHEARD IN STAIRWELL B, FLOORS 3–7 —and the thing is, every single one of them has a kitchen. Every floor. The same kitchen. Same benchtop, same tap, same branded mug no one has ever drunk from. —I counted the chairs once. Forty-two chairs around tables where nobody sits. Forty-two chairs facing each other having better meetings than us. —You could raise children in the space between the printer and the wall. You could grow tomatoes. You could lie down. —I lie down sometimes. In my mind. Between the printer and the wall. While someone shares their screen and says "can everyone see my screen?" —Everyone can see your screen. No one can see the room.
