SUITCASE, n. 1. A soft-sided reliquary, zipped shut, in which the day's indecisions are folded five times and called finished. 2. The bright rectangle inside it that keeps ringing, unanswered, all the way to the gate. 3. A tin of cookies packed as apology, its lid inscribed in a hand no scanner can read. 4. What a sock is not, when it comes loose in the corner and curls, still damp, refusing to be found.
