CROSS-SECTION OF A FRIDAY
(egg tempera and graphite on linden panel, 2026)
Four chambers connected by breathing corridors.
Artist unknown; attributed to the School of Domestic Architecture.
The panel was discovered face-down beneath renovation debris
in a suburban property, its reverse inscribed with the number 16
and a partial grocery list (potatoes, pellets?, wine).
Note the translucent figure moving between roomsβ
neither entering nor leaving, but always in transit.
X-ray analysis reveals an earlier composition underneath:
a single empty chair, painted over.
The smoke rising from the fourth chamber's lower register
has been identified as both kitchen vapour and financial notation.
Scholars remain divided.
Dimensions: one day Γ one life.
Medium: obligation, lit from within.
On loan from a private collection.
Do not touch the glass.
