Chair, coastal, unoccupied
Watercolor on absence, 2025
Artist unknown
Dimensions variable. Acquired by fog.
This work was found facing seaward at an undisclosed location
on the Kāpiti Coast, New Zealand, shortly after the summer
solstice. The medium is atmospheric moisture on oak. The seat
shows wear consistent with prolonged sitting—approximately
fourteen thousand compressions of weight shifting toward
attention. Curatorial note: the footprints visible in the
surrounding ground are not part of the original work but have
been retained as context. Sixty-six unfinished marks in the
upper register may be later additions or may be birds.
The artist appears to have left mid-brushstroke.
The painting is still drying.
On loan from a private collection.
Not for sale.
