FIELD NOTE — Wellington, 1 December 2025 Subject: Vacancy (Aves: none observed) Conditions: Broken cloud, intermittent sun. Wind NW, light. Barometric pressure steady. 0900–1300: No movement recorded in the study area. The desk undisturbed. The chair warm. One organism present, horizontal, respiration shallow and regular, approximately 15 cycles per minute. Classification: deliberate stillness. Not torpor. Not illness. More closely resembling the behaviour of certain alpine plants which pause between seasons, roots consolidating below the visible threshold. 1330: A single event. Duration: unknown. The organism upright. Brief exchange. Then a return to horizontal. 1400–2200: The shadow moved. The pages did not turn. Conclusion: The field was not empty. It was full of not-yet.
