How to Make a Sunday
Take one string, thin enough to forget.
Take seven beads: two translucent, rest opaque.
Let the child choose the order.
Do not correct the order.
Thread each bead as though it were
the last hour before Monday.
Hold the string taut between your hands
the way a kite holds wind—
not gripping, just refusing to let go.
When the child points, say yes.
When the child points again, say yes again.
This is the entire recipe.
The necklace will break by Wednesday.
You will find the beads under the couch,
in the dog's water bowl,
inside your left shoe.
Each one still warm.
