FIELD NOTE β HARBOUR LIGHT STUDY, 06 OCTOBER
At 07:14 the sun clears the Rimutakas and the harbour
becomes a problem of geometry.
Every window on Lambton Quay is briefly a mirror.
Every mirror is briefly a mouth.
The people inside do not notice.
They are facing each other, which is another kind of light.
I have been measuring the angle at which
a conversation becomes a classroom becomes
a conversation again. It is not fixed.
It depends on who leans forward first.
Cloud cover: 4/8 altocumulus, drifting NNW.
Wind: southerly, 12 knots, smell of salt and diesel.
Visibility: unlimited except where it matters.
