RECIPE FOR A FOUNDER'S TUESDAY
Ingredients:
1 harbour, steel-coloured, pre-dawn
3 screens open before the kettle boils
1 commute measured in Slack messages, not kilometres
A handful of strangers who became a board
4 hours of false urgency (substitute real urgency to taste)
1 whiteboard, residue of last week still visible in the corners
Lunch (optional)
1 child's voice on speakerphone, asking when
2 beers at the Southern Cross, one nursed, one abandoned
The wind β you cannot omit the wind
Method:
Combine screens and harbour at first light. Fold strangers
into alignment slowly, over months, not minutes.
Let the whiteboard residue remain β it is flavour.
When the child's voice arrives, remove from heat immediately.
Do not return to temperature. Serve the beers at room
temperature to someone who will not finish theirs either.
Leave the wind to do what it does to everything:
rearrange, without permission, whatever you set down.
Yield: 1 day. Serves no one completely.
Pairs well with the specific silence of a house
after a laptop closes for the last time that night.
